Best Time to Visit

Best Time to Visit Bintan

Bintan enjoys a tropical climate with temperatures averaging between 25°C and 31°C year-round. The best time to visit is from March to October, when the weather is sunny, the seas calmer, and outdoor activities more pleasant. Between November and February, rainfall increases but usually only lasts briefly, so travel plans are rarely disrupted. In fact, during this season the island feels cooler and greener.

How to Get There

Bintan Travel Guide

Access to Bintan is highly flexible, making it an easy destination to reach from various cities. From Singapore, the trip is as simple as taking a ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to Bandar Bentan Telani, which takes just about an hour. From Jakarta, travellers can fly directly to Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport (TNJ) in Tanjungpinang, followed by a short 20-minute drive to Aston Tanjungpinang.

For those coming from Bali, there are no direct flights to Bintan, so a transit through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), Jakarta is required. This range of options allows travellers the freedom to choose routes that best suit their needs and travel schedules.

Day 1: Arrival & Cultural Heritage

Sultan Riau Mosque in Penyengat Island Bintan

Afternoon:

  • Upon arrival in Bintan, head straight to Aston Tanjungpinang for check-in. After a short rest, the adventure begins with a visit to Penyengat Island, a small isle steeped in history. Once the administrative hub of the Riau-Lingga Sultanate, the island is still home to treasured pieces of Malay heritage.
  • Its most iconic site is the Sultan Riau Mosque, a grand building uniquely constructed with walls believed to include egg white as a binding agent. Beyond the mosque, you’ll find Dutch fort ruins, the tombs of Malay royalty, and traditional wooden houses that retain their historic architecture. Penyengat Island is like a living history book, telling stories of Malay glory and showcasing Bintan’s cultural diversity.

Trikora Beach in Bintan Island

Morning:

  • After breakfast at the hotel, set off for Trikora Beach, one of Bintan’s most picturesque shorelines. Known for its soft white sand, clear waters, and giant granite boulders lining the coast, it’s a serene spot perfect for swimming, light snorkelling, or simply strolling along the shore with the sea breeze. Trikora is divided into several areas, each with its own charm. At some points, you’ll spot traditional fishermen in wooden boats, adding an authentic coastal flavour.
