How To Get There

The Merangin Regency is in the Jambi Province on the island of Sumatra, and to reach Merangin you’ll need to fly to Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin Airport (DJB) in Jambi City, which is the closest airport to the geopark. This airport connects with many major cities in Indonesia, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) in Jakarta. Travellers coming from Bali will need to transit through Jakarta before continuing on to Jambi.

From Jambi, the journey to Merangin continues overland as there is no local airport in Merangin itself. The road trip takes approximately 5–6 hours, so be sure to take water and snacks and settle-in for the long ride.

Temperatures in the area average between 22°C and 30°C all year-round, offering a comfortably cool, to warm climate thanks to its elevation of 500–1,200 metres above sea-level.
