Nusa Tenggara Barat

Home to the indigenous tribes of the Sasak people in Lombok, and the Samawa and Mbojo tribes of Sumbawa, the main religion of NTB is Islam and you will see plenty of examples of stunningly elaborate mosques – especially in the capital city of Mataram. With some of the best surf-breaks to explore, Sumbawa is proving to be a hidden gem for those thrill-seekers who are looking to perfect their surfing skills. The Gili Islands – made up of Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trewangan – can be found off the north-west coast of Lombok and are easily reachable by a short boat ride. Their laid-back, tropical island vibes attract many visitors each year who are drawn to the crystal-clear waters, stunning snorkelling and many turtle-spotting opportunities – this is definitely one place that should be on your bucket list!

NTB, or Nusa Tenggara Barat, is the provincial name for the collective group of islands that make up West Timor. This includes the island of Lombok, the Gili Islands and Sumbawa. With its rugged coastal line and volcanic valleys, the islands of NTB are an explorer’s delight! Full of wonderful biodiversity and perfect for adventuring in the great outdoors.
