Lombok

The original inhabitants of the island are called the Sasak tribe who make up 70% of the island’s population. Islam is the main religion on the island and throughout the day and evening, it is very common to hear the call to prayer echoing throughout the island’s many mosques. Mount Rinjani dominates the landscape in the north and as the second tallest volcano in Indonesia, is a popular (but challenging!) hiking destination.

East of Bali you will find Lombok, similar in size to its nearby neighbour however often referred to as Bali’s less famous little sister. But don’t underestimate this incredible island with its white sandy beaches and breathtaking sunsets – as there is certainly plenty to explore! Thanks to the Wallace Line (a deep water channel that runs between Bali and Lombok) here you will find that the flora and fauna is totally different to that of the rest of Indo-Malaysia, and more similar to the species found in Australia.
