Labuan Bajo is the main tourist centre of Flores, an island in the East Nusa Tenggara region of Indonesia. The town is small, however there are plenty of things to do in Labuan Bajo and the surrounding area.
Labuan Bajo is known as the gateway to the Komodo National Park, which is made-up of 29 volcanic islands including Komodo Island and Rinca Island – the only two islands in the world where Komodo Dragons live! There are approximately 2,500 Komodo Dragons, and the National Park is also full of other fascinating land and marine creatures. When setting an itinerary for Labuan Bajo, it’s essential that you include plenty of experiences that allow you to check-out the incredible landscape, both above and below the water.

Flores has one of the driest climates in Indonesia. You may have the opportunity to spot a huge variety of land and sea creatures, such as snakes, lizards, frogs, deer, horses, water buffalo and birds. Under the water, astonishing biodiversity makes Komodo National Park a bucket-list location for divers – whales, sharks, dugongs, huge manta rays, sting rays, turtles, marine reptiles, tropical fish and corals are spread across more than 100 world-class dive sites. Rip tides, whirlpools and fierce currents spread nutrients through the ocean, allowing marine and coral life to thrive.
On land there are waterfalls, caves and savannahs to discover, as well as cultural experiences like traditional villages, where you can get up-close with the indigenous Manggarai culture. 4-days, 3-nights is the perfect time frame for exploring this corner of Flores Island.
