Sudamala Resort Seraya Launches Coral Conservation Programme in Flores

Sudamala Resort Seraya Coral Conservation

Sudamala Resort Seraya, in collaboration with Yayasan Sudamala Bumi Insani (YSBI) and Blue Harmony Bali, has officially launched a coral reef conservation initiative to protect and restore the house reef surrounding Seraya Kecil Island.

The initiative marks the start of a long-term programme using the Mars Assisted Reef Restoration System, a globally recognised approach to reef rehabilitation. An ecological survey of the area has been completed to identify coral species and marine habitats, and the project is now moving into the site selection phase, with government permits currently in progress.

Covering a designated area of 6.31 hectares, the conservation programme reflects a significant commitment to supporting marine biodiversity in the region. The initiative has received strong support from the Regent of Manggarai Barat, who stated, “This is a commendable example of how tourism and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. We fully support this initiative and hope it will inspire other tourism stakeholders to take similar action for our precious marine ecosystems.”

The programme has also been welcomed by Blue Harmony Bali, the NGO partner leading the reef restoration efforts. “We are honoured to be part of this initiative with Sudamala and YSBI,” said Pariama Hutasoit, representative of Blue Harmony Bali. “This collaboration shows how the private and non-profit sectors can work together to protect coral reefs, and we hope to see similar projects across Indonesia.”
