Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites continues to bring contemporary art and creative expression to its guests and the wider public through “SOMEWHERE, ELSEWHERE”, an exhibition by Indonesian artist Puri Fidhini in collaboration with creative art studio EIARTI. The exhibition is presented at ARTSPACE, Lobby Level, Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites, and runs from 25 September 2026 to 17 January 2027.
“SOMEWHERE, ELSEWHERE” explores the space between reality, memory and imagination. The exhibition reflects Puri Fidhini’s artistic practice of transforming personal experiences, journeys and memories into new visual landscapes. For Puri, space is not simply something to see and record, but something that continues to change through experience, travel and memory.

An important influence on Puri’s artistic journey was her residency in Reykjavík, Iceland, in 2019, where she encountered landscapes shaped by ice, mountains, the sea and nature on a scale very different from her everyday surroundings. Her return to Iceland in 2022 added another layer to the experience through observation, travel and reconnecting with landscapes she had previously encountered. Rather than bringing back direct images of these places, Puri carried fragments of the experience that gradually became part of her memories.
These fragments are transformed into surreal landscapes through Puri’s oil-on-canvas works. Natural and architectural elements, including houses, mountains, water and open spaces, appear alongside objects associated with games, such as chessboards, chess pieces, cards and dice.

Games act as a metaphor for life, representing strategy, choices, chance, winning, losing and the illusion of control. Meanwhile, doors, windows, walls and landscapes create boundaries between what is seen and hidden, as well as between familiar spaces and those shaped by imagination.
Rather than depicting specific places, the works bring together fragments of what Puri has seen with what she later imagined. Through this approach, “SOMEWHERE, ELSEWHERE” invites visitors into a space between the familiar and the imagined, where reality can shift and things once seen can return in unfamiliar forms.
The exhibition features several of Puri Fidhini’s works, including Fragmented Memories, Lost and Found in the Blue, A Scene from the Last Round, The Wake of a Giant, The Migration of The Whale, Echoes of Resilience, and Beneath Quiet Water, alongside other works presented as part of the exhibition.

“We see art as an inseparable part of the experience we want to offer at Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites. Through ‘SOMEWHERE, ELSEWHERE’, we are not only bringing artworks into the hotel space, but also creating an opportunity for guests and visitors to engage with the perspectives and stories brought by an artist. We hope ARTSPACE can continue to become a space that brings artists, their works and the public together through relevant and meaningful experiences. Going forward, we hope to continue holding launching exhibitions on an ongoing basis. Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites is committed to always being a space for growth and a capable platform for talented local artists to showcase their best works to the public,” said Faisal Tranggono, General Manager of Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites.
