Indonesia’s Master Tailors to Host 29th Federation of Asian Master Tailors Congress in Bali

Indonesia has a long-standing tradition of bespoke tailoring, supported by a professional community and established association. In 2026, this community will take centre stage as the Indonesia Master Tailor Association (IMTA) hosts the 29th Congress of the Federation of Asian Master Tailors (FAMT) in Bali from 31 August to 5 September 2026.

The six-day congress will bring together more than 100 master tailors from across Asia, along with more than 200 guests and participants. For IMTA, the event is more than an international gathering. It is an opportunity to introduce Indonesia’s master tailors to a wider audience and highlight the skills and craftsmanship behind bespoke tailoring.

A well-made suit is known for its fit, fabric and attention to detail, but creating one requires years of experience, precision and skill. Indonesia has its own community of master tailors who have dedicated their careers to the craft. Established in the 1960s, IMTA supports the development and preservation of bespoke tailoring in Indonesia.

As a member of FAMT, IMTA also connects Indonesian master tailors with professionals from across Asia. The association provides opportunities to exchange knowledge, develop skills and maintain professional standards within the industry.

Despite its long history, master tailoring remains relatively unfamiliar to many Indonesians. The 29th FAMT Congress provides an opportunity to bring greater attention to the profession and showcase Indonesia’s place within Asia’s tailoring community.

Held annually in different Asian destinations, the FAMT Congress features competitions, seminars, knowledge sharing and professional networking. This year’s programme in Bali will include the International Master Tailor Cutting Competition, International Master Tailor Judging Competition, Judging Mannequin Competition, Golden Fingers Competition and Menswear Dressing Competition, alongside seminars, cultural activities and a Fashion Show & Awards Ceremony.

The congress will allow Indonesian master tailors to meet their international counterparts, exchange ideas and showcase the skills and craftsmanship that continue to shape the country’s bespoke tailoring industry.

Bali will provide the setting for the gathering, bringing together the world of tailoring with the island’s culture and hospitality. Delegates will stay at Hilton Bali and take part in a programme combining craftsmanship, competitions, education and cultural experiences.

At the heart of the congress are the people behind the craft. From cutting patterns and shaping garments to judging technical skills and celebrating finished pieces, the event will highlight the knowledge, precision and creativity of master tailors.

For IMTA, the congress is also an opportunity to make Indonesia’s master tailoring community more visible, both internationally and locally. The 29th FAMT Congress will celebrate the country’s tailoring heritage while connecting Indonesian professionals with the wider Asian industry and introducing more people to the skilled individuals behind Indonesia’s bespoke tailoring tradition.
