Building on its success throughout Bali and Australia, Expat. Roasters has announced the opening of its newest Indonesian location in Bandung. Launched in Bali in 2016, the speciality coffee brand is now bringing its quality beans to Bandung’s creative culture, cool climate and thriving café scene – a significant milestone in the brand’s nationwide expansion.
The brand’s first store in Bandung also features Expat. Roasters’ innovative concept: Coffee Studio. This new space is dedicated to curated, bespoke coffee experiences and events, embracing Expat. Roasters’ ongoing mission to push boundaries in how coffee is shared and enjoyed. It brings together farmers, roasters, baristas and guests, whilst also reflecting the brand’s passion for educating coffee lovers everywhere.
CEO & Founder Shae Macnamara says that opening in Bandung is a personal return. “Bandung was one of the first cities I visited outside of Bali, and it immediately struck me with its creative energy, vibrant culture and inspiring architecture. From its cafes filled with artists and photographers to its blend of colonial charm and modern flair, Bandung felt like a place where ideas and artistry come alive. That same spirit of creativity and connection that shaped our beginnings in Bali is what we hope to bring to this new space in Bandung.”
He added, “We’ve spent valuable time with farmers in the surrounding coffee-growing regions, building strong, lasting relationships with producers whose beans have become an integral part of our signature offerings. We’re excited to share these exceptional coffees with Bandung, bring a little taste of Bali’s energy, and hopefully become a meaningful part of your daily ritual.”
Designed by WHAstudio in collaboration with Sydney-based X plus O Design Studio, the Bandung flagship’s Principal Architect, Wilson Harkhono, shared, “Our goal was to create a dynamic environment that reflects Bandung’s creative spirit and Expat. Roasters’ commitment to craftsmanship. The dedicated Coffee Studio is a highlight and is designed to be a welcoming haven where local culture and modern design merge seamlessly, offering guests a truly immersive and sensory experience.”
