Fancy a dinner date with history in Bali? Bale Sutra 1706 at Hotel Tugu Bali invites you to an unbelievably unique feast inside a beautifully preserved, 319-year-old Kang Xi temple. Step back in history one bite at a time!
This temple once faced demolition in Java, but the founder and designer of Tugu Hotels & Restaurants, Anhar Setjadibrata, moved and rebuilt it in Bali, where the temple was originally brought by Chinese immigrants centuries ago. It’s now a stunning centrepiece that celebrates the enduring cultural connections between China and Japan, a relationship forged over 2,000 years.
Stepping into Bale Sutra 1706 is a time-travelling journey. You’ll pass through one of three unique doorways into an empirical enclave and see dark wood façades covered in intricate animal carvings, each a piece of ancient Chinese lore. Inside, the design is a stunning blend of Peranakan Chinese heritage and refined Japanese artistry, from the intricately carved wood to the innovative branding inspired by calligraphy and regional motifs.
Bale Sutra 1706 serves up private feasts that blend authentic Peranakan Chinese cuisine, elegant Japanese bites, and immersive Indonesian dishes. Every mouthful is a mythical journey, crafted to delight your palate and share centuries of regional stories. This unique restaurant is a rare encounter with history, art and gastronomy. For any intimate celebration or an unforgettable evening in Bali, this is the place where you can dine inside a centuries-old temple, surrounded by the spirit of two great civilisations. Who knew history could taste this good?
Bale Sutra 1706 awaits your private dining or special event, offering a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience where history lives on!
