September 2024 – In celebration of its 35th anniversary, Amandari, the iconic retreat nestled in Ubud, proudly unveils “Memuliakan Wastra: Honouring Ethnic Textile”, an exclusive exhibition created in collaboration with Melati Danes Interior. Open until November 30, 2024, the exhibition explores the theme of Reconnection, highlighting the deep cultural significance of Indonesia’s rich textile heritage.
Curated by Melati Danes Interior, this immersive showcase unfolds across Amandari’s Lobby, Library, Upstairs Restaurant, and Boutique. It features a vibrant collection of traditional crafts, folk art, and fashion that exemplify the artistic legacy and knowledge passed through generations. Through thoughtful interior installations, visitors are invited on a journey to discover wastra, exploring the textile’s history and the role it plays in Balinese life.

Memuliakan Wastra offers more than an exhibition—it’s a storytelling experience that not only celebrates but also educates. This cultural journey emphasizes the ongoing evolution of these time-honoured traditions, showcasing how craftsmanship is transferred across generations while adapting to modernity.
The exhibition invites both guests and visitors to participate in a variety of engaging activities, including painting workshops and a special talk titled “Weaving the Future”, along with a mini-bazaar featuring local weavers and artisans dedicated to preserving Balinese crafts.
As Amandari marks its 35th anniversary, this exhibition reaffirms its dedication to supporting and celebrating Balinese artisanship and tradition, ensuring that these rich cultural narratives continue to thrive.
Partnering with Melati Danes Interior, renowned for its culturally respectful and innovative designs, Amandari continues to offer guests an authentic connection to Bali’s heritage, blending tradition with contemporary design to ensure Indonesia’s ethnic textiles remain a source of inspiration for years to come.
