Alaya Hotels & Resorts continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability and Bali’s cultural heritage through its philosophy, Sustainability is the New Luxury.
In Ubud, the Subak rice fields have been an important part of the local landscape and community for generations. Alaya works closely with the Subak Desa Padang Tegal community near Alaya Resort Ubud to help preserve these productive rice fields, traditional farming practices, and local livelihoods.

The initiative reflects the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which promotes harmony between people (Pawongan), nature (Palemahan), and spirituality (Parahyangan). This philosophy guides Alaya’s approach to hospitality and its relationship with the local community and environment.
Alaya’s sustainability commitment also extends beyond the rice fields. Through Alaya Grounds, the group supports local culinary entrepreneurs and community-based businesses. Across its properties, Alaya also works with local artisans and suppliers, celebrates Balinese culture and traditions, reduces its environmental impact, and supports surrounding communities.

“Tri Hita Karana is not simply a philosophy we speak about. It is the foundation of how we operate every day,” said Ibu Dewi Mas, CHA, CHT, Chief Operating Officer of Alaya Hotels & Resorts.
“As Alaya continues to grow, our responsibility to the place we call home grows with us. By working with local communities, supporting Balinese culture, and caring for the environment, Alaya aims to ensure that progress and preservation move forward together.”

For Alaya Hotels & Resorts, Sustainability is the New Luxury is more than a statement. It is a commitment to responsible growth, supporting local communities, and preserving the cultural and natural heritage that makes Bali unique.
