A Peaceful Nyepi Retreat at AYANA Bali

Bali will observe Nyepi, the Day of Silence and the start of the Balinese New Year in the Saka calendar, on Thursday, 19 March 2026. For 24 hours, the island comes to a complete standstill as travel stops, lights are dimmed, and Hindus focus on meditation, fasting, and quiet reflection. This unique tradition offers a rare chance to pause from daily life and experience collective calm.

To mark the occasion, AYANA Bali presents a specially curated Nyepi programme that combines cultural experiences, spiritual reflection, and wellness across its 90-hectare clifftop resort overlooking the Indian Ocean.

A Meaningful Nyepi Experience

From 18–20 March, guests can take part in rituals surrounding Nyepi. The programme begins on 18 March with Pengerupukan, featuring lively ogoh-ogoh parades—large ceremonial effigies symbolising negative forces that are ritually cleansed ahead of the New Year.

That evening, guests may join the Magical Megobog and Cultural Dinner at Kampoeng Bali, which includes traditional performances, rituals, and authentic Balinese cuisine in an open-air setting.

Cultural experiences continue at SAKA Museum, a contemporary institution dedicated to preserving Balinese heritage. Recognised among TIME Magazine’s World’s Greatest Places 2024, the museum hosts a Nyepi talk on 18 March and an interactive cultural session on 20 March.

Nyepi Day: A Sanctuary of Stillness

On 19 March, guests remain within the resort in respect of Nyepi traditions. The quiet atmosphere allows the resort to become a peaceful sanctuary for wellness and reflection.

The day begins with sunrise yoga, followed by gentle activities such as Aqua Pilates, Qi Gong, sound healing, meditation, and access to the Thalassotherapy Pool, known for its mineral-rich seawater treatments.

Families can enjoy calm activities including guided nature walks, farm experiences at AYANA Farm, indoor leisure facilities, and children’s programmes. In the evening, the absence of artificial light creates ideal conditions for a guided stargazing experience.

Through this programme, the resort offers guests a meaningful way to observe Nyepi with respect while enjoying comfort and relaxation.
